Ash Ketchum gets his Japanese name, Satoshi, from the creator of the Pokémon franchise, Satoshi Tajiri. Also, his English surname is a pun on the Pokémon motto, “Gotta catch ‘em all!”.

The first word trademarked by the Pokémon Company was ミュー (Mew), on March 31, 1994. This was applied even before ポケットモンスタ (Pocket Monsters) was trademarked!
The skull and crossbones pattern on Koffing’s Red and Blue sprite is in the wrong position. On the sprite, is is above its face. In all other media (including its original Red and Green sprite), it is below its face.
